Ian Lovett
Lionhead Studios
After training as both an artist and photographer Ian entered the games industry in as a junior 3D artist at Probe Entertainment eventually leaving the company as a Senior 3D artist, having cut his teeth on the PSX and PC version of ‘Forsaken’. He then did a brief, but enjoyable, stint as an artist at Bullfrog working on the tightly scheduled ThemePark 2, only leaving to help the brothers Carter set up their new studio, Big Blue Box. Ian founded ‘Big Blue Box Studios’ in 1998 along with Simon and Dene Carter as the new studios Director of Art. He was responsible for the artistic direction and quality of the studios first project ‘Fable’. From the very beginning, Big Blue Box enjoyed a close relationship with Lionhead. The founding members sharing a creative vision for ‘Fable’ with Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux. Over time the relationship between the two companies developed into the satellite scheme, which eventually led to BBB being acquired Lionhead. For the duration of Fable’s development Ian led the projects visual development and on its release he saw the title become a key player in Microsoft’s portfolio with sales now approaching the 3 million mark. Shortly after the success of Fable, Lionhead was acquired by Microsoft and during that period Ian moved into his current role as Technical Art Director, working on the next iteration of the Fable story, Fable2. His role now encompasses a wide variety of jobs but his primary focus remains upon Fable2 and ensuring that it’s artistic vision is realised on Microsoft’s generation leading console the xbox360.
